CAMPAIGN TO RECALL MIKE BONIN TO CELEBRATE VICTORY IN
PLAYA DEL REY LANE RESTORATION
PLAYA DEL REY, CA - The campaign to recall Los Angeles Councilmember Mike Bonin will celebrate Bonin’s announcement of lane restoration on Culver Boulevard, Jefferson Boulevard and Pershing Drive in Playa Del Rey at 7 p.m. at the Venice Grind in Mar Vista.
Bonin’s latest reversal follows his decision to bring back traffic lanes on Jefferson and Culver Boulevards in Mar Vista after mounting public pressure from commuters, residents and business owners.
In recent weeks, Bonin along with Mayor Eric Garcetti, have had to backpedal on their ill-conceived Safe Streets for Playa del Rey program that began in June and affected Vista del Mar, Pershing Drive, Culver and Jefferson Boulevards.
Alexis Edelstein, co-chair of the Recall Bonin campaign said, "It’s because of the Recall Bonin campaign efforts, along with local grassroots organizations and local businesses, that we were able to get L.A. City Hall to back down. We're happy that Bonin--amid the pressure of a recall--was brought to heel.
However we're not done. There are still 19 streets in Bonin’s district that are slated for reconfigurations including: Venice Boulevard in Mar Vista where Injury Collision Rates are up 7% since the lanes were removed. Residents and businesses alike should be troubled by the upcoming plans. We won't stop our efforts until all of the roads are safe!"
The 19 streets scheduled for reconfiguration include: Lincoln Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, Pico Boulevard, Sepulveda Boulevard, Centinela Avenue, Venice and Culver Boulevards.
Since the ‘road diets’ were enacted last June, there have been 50 accidents along Culver Boulevard. Prior to the lane diets, the yearly average was 11. Various local businesses in the area have reported a 50 percent decrease in sales.
WHEN: Wednesday, October 18 7PM
WHERE: Venice Grind
12224 Venice Blvd., Mar Vista
